My Double Page Spread

My Contents Page

My Music Magazine Cover

This is my final magazine front cover. I have made a few changes to my final magazine cover to make it more presentable and look like a professinal magazine. For my final one I have rearrangerd the text around, so that it is not over lapping on the main image, and made the text bolder to stand out against the background and more eye catching for the reader to see and read, the price is in a puff and the coloures are contrasting to the background and the text in it.

Double Page Spread Analysis - MixMag

·The lay out of this double page spread is split, on the left of the double page is the images and the title and on the right hand side of the pages is the text and more images; also the text is at the bottom of the page on the right, with images above it. The pictures over the double page spread are of people is a club or rave, so some of the images used of the people dancing in the club are slightly blurred and the colours are bright in the images used, this is suggesting that it is a rave.

·The choice of images used for this interview and double page spread go well with the title, the images used for this article are images of people raving. Also because the article is called ‘Rave the Planet’, along with the images of the raving scenes there is also quite a big image of a yellow smiley face with the recycle logo for the eyes. These two types of images; of the raving scene and the smiling face are contradicting each other.

·The target audience for this magazine is for young adults 18-26. This is due to that fact that young adults are more into the raving scene more than older people. Also because there are some swear words in this article that have not been blocked out.

·The type of language that has been used in this article is; assertive and factual, and is giving the audience that is reading this magazine useful information. There is also some swearing in this article, which is informal and the words have not been blocked out, the swearing is mainly coming from people opinions and views of the clubbing and raving scene.

·The style of the article matches the front cover because, the colours used in the article and front cover are bright and colourful, and which is eye catching for the audience. Also the words used on the front cover relate to raving and the party scene; ‘Party or Die’.

·The colours in this article are mainly; black, for the background, white, for the writing, and the colour red is quite dominant in this article as well because, there is a fully red photo in the top right hand corner on the right page of the article and also because the red is used to show that the images are of a ‘film’.

DRAFT- Front Cover of Magazine

Title Blocks

I was choosing my title block font, here are a few I liked, and then my final choosen font it at the bottom of the page, in a bigger size text. I choose this becasue the edges are pointy and clear cut, it gives a crisp finish to the letters and slightly quiry and unusal finsh to the top of the letters; the 'T' for examploe and also the dots on the 'I'. I also like this because of the bold text witch will stand out on the final front cover page.

Music Magazine Title Blocks

'SMASH HITS' the genre of the magazine is 'pop' and the font and style of text matches it. It is written in a rounded slightly slanlted font with some of the letters are connected together. I believe that this is a good connect to the magazine and its contents. The mucis featuerd in this magazine is is a mix of everything popular and current at the time. So the connected together and the wrighting rounded off, is telling me that the magazine is an all rounded one and is covering every music gerne that it can and needs to. The rounded edges of the font and the soft subtle. but also eye catching colours and genrally aimed at the younger audience. This also reflects the language and the content both on and inside the magazine. The words 'Smash Hits' tell me that this particual magazine is going to be about the current hits around the time of the magazine and that they are the most current and have the best responce from the genral pulic as the viewing audience.

The title block on the magazine is big, bold and bright in colour. Although they colour of the font changes it is also and contrasting on to the background, so it isn't fading in the the background. The font used is very simple but it effective because it is seen and recognised. The title block its self dosent give away the genre of the magazine, but it tells us as the audience that the music content in the magazine is about the 'VIBE' that is around the music circite and the mintue.

The title is a single letter. It is white on a bold red backgroud. the 'Q' dosen't give anything away about the genre of the music in the maazine or anything about the magazine. This dose stick in your mind because it is a bold and promintante image on the magazine and in your head. The type of audience I would say this magazine is aiumed for from the title is an lder one. I think this because of the text font the letter is written in, although it is simple, the font is or simlar to 'Time New Roman', even the name of the font sujests old and quite boring, which will not draw in kids or a younger audience, as if it was written in a bolder block letter font, which would look more current and modern to the time. It dosent give away the genre but I think that the content isn't for the younger audience and the music that is most popular at the current time, although it still has current music features or the specific genre of music.

Double Page Spread Analysis - Hip Hop Connections

·The lay out of this double page spread is split, on the left hand side is all the questions and answers that have been said, and on the right hand page of the spread is an image of the artist, which is full length. The background of the image is quite plain and mostly white in colour, this makes the artist stand out more and look quite powerful.

·The choice of images used for this interview and double page spread is quite ironic because the stance and pose of the man looks very powerful, but also calm and relaxed, which to me shows that he is or should be well know, but actually most people don’t and wont know who he is, unless he has been around before and he has reinvented him self or become a solo artist.

·The choice of band for the double page spread reflects the genre of the music magazine. Also the target audience for this magazine is aimed round teenagers and young adults; 17- 26. This is due the language this has been used in the interview and the fact that when the magazine has been edited, the swear words have not been blanked out.

·The type is language that has been used in this interview, is quite well spoken and no slang is used, the interviewee is also talking about serious things that he is doing at the moment and what he may be doing in the future; ‘ There’s new graphic novel coming up through Warner Brothers’. But in this interview there is also some swearing throughout it, the interviewee uses the word ‘Shit’ quite a lot when he is describing other artists; ‘Its frustrating seeing rappers talk about the same shit all the time. There’s so much to write about!’ he even talks about his own work; ‘I about to do the greatest shit I’ve ever done.’

·The style of the article matches the style of the front cover of the magazine because background are similar, there are both using white, and also because the images on both are powerful in a way that the pose’s that have been used also catch the readers eye, they are also full page and the dominant thing on the whole page.

·The colours used are, white, green and red. The background on both the page with the writing on it and the full page of the image. The main text colour is green, but to make some of the text and quotes stand out they are in red font, bold and bigger size text.

Britney Analysis

- This image of Britney has been framed/cropped all over the page; it is the full length and width of the page. Britney is in the centre of the whole page and the full length. The shot that has been used to take the photo is an over the head shot, so that the camera angle looks as if the audience down on Britney.

- The clothing that Britney wearing is very revelling and which will attract the male audience more to this magazine. Britney is only wearing underwear and a shirt, like a school shirt that she wore in ‘hit me baby one more time’ video, but now she is exposing her body to people and showing a rebellious side to her. Also the shirt is open and is showing the audience her bra and body. This image of Britney suggests to us that she is in a bit of a tease for the male audience, with the use of the phone that she is using also in this image of her.

-There are two props that have been used in this shot of Britney one of them is a soft toy of a Teletubby; which shows that she is still a child and a sense of innocence about her. The other prop used in this image is a phone which looks as if Britney is talking to her boy friend in a sexual way, and her boyfriend could be the audience.

- The setting that this image has been taken in is the bedroom; on the bed. Britney is lying on a pink silky sheet, which can a be sexual significance and meanng to this image.

- The text along side this image of Britney says; ‘Inside the Heart, Mind and Bedroom of a Teen Dream’, this suggests to the audience that they will be able to read all about Britney and what she gets up to.

-Black for the underwear that Britney is wearing and pink for the background. Both of these colours together are sexy and usually used and associated with the bedroom.

-The image has been framed and cropped so that you can see nearly all of Britney, but it is cropped and framed at the top part of her leg. This type of shot has been used so that the audience can see that Britney is nearly naked in the whole image.

-Britney is wearing white knickers, and is also holding a white sheet in the hand which covers up her breasts. The type of relationship she wants to have with the audience is a sexual one.

-The setting that is used for this photo is, Britney is in between two walls, this could be a shower entrance. The connotations that are used in this image are that Britney is half naked and that she is teasing the audience with hardly any clothes on.

-The lighting that is used is coming from above Britney and making her whole body light up. Also the white that is surrounding Britney reflects

-The colours used in this image of Britney are mainly white but with a pink rim on the edge of the knickers. The white is meant the reflected the purity that is Britney and the little bit of pink that you can see is to show her feminine side.

-The image that has been chosen is a close up of just Britney’s face; this has been chosen to show the audience her facial expressions. This image goes well with the story which is about her ‘tragedy’. The black and white that has been used for this image creates a sense of sadness that Britney maybe going through.

-This image has been cropped to show just Britney’s face and not her whole body or even hair. The close up of Britney’s face shows the audience that she isn’t going to hide anything in the interview.

-The type of relationship Britney wants with the audience is an open one, Britney is telling ‘her’ audience how she really feels about her ‘tragedy’.

Questionnaire – Results Analysis

I have found that more people do buy music magazines than not form my results which I have showed in a bar graph. It tells me that most people do buy music magazines.

I then asked people if they are male or female, I got more females that done my questionnaire, by one. But my target audience will still be for both male and females; I have made this decision on the fact that my results are one more than the other because I asked an odd amount of people to do my questionnaires at random; which in total is 15.

The majority of the people who answered my questionnaire are aged 16. This shows me that the target audience for my music magazine should be between 16 – 18 years old.

The music that the people I asked the most is Hip Hop, and a close second R’n’B. So my music magazine will be about both of the genres of music because they fall under a similar genre to each other.

Out of the choice of amounts of money people would be willing to pay, they choose the least amount; £1.20. But this amount is about the right amount for the audience that my magazine is aimed at and how often it will come out.

The style of magazine that my audience would like the see the most is glossy, as apposed to newspaper. The glossy style is a more glamorous look over the newspaper style; glossy is what nearly all of the magazines are.

In my magazine as well as the music charts and information in the music industry like new and up and coming acts, my audience would also like to read about celebrity gossip in the music circuit, ticket information and any news from all well known acts and performers in the Hip Hop genre.

Preliminary: Mock - Up of Contents Page

To produce this contents page I have listed what will be in my in my magazine; which I have also numbered to so that the reader will be able to go straight to the page that they would like to read.
I have also added an image on to my contents page, which is eye catching and draws the reader’s attention to the story.
To improve this contents page I could make the list of what is in my magazine, and add more images to go with the different stories in the magazine.
Also change the font and the size of the text.
I could add a puff box with some key information and page number.

Preliminary: Mock - Up of Front Cover

To produce this front cover I took a picture of three students in my college called Jodie, Linzi and Chelsea.
I put the image by uploading it on to Photoshop CS3 and I then edited the image. The edits I made are; I blended in some of the light and shade on the faces and hair. Also I changed the colour around thier eyes.
Then I put my new image on to Illustrator CS3 and I added a title, a puff box for my price in, a sell line and a bar code.
To improve my front cover I will cut around my image, so that it just shows the students and not the background of the wall and make it look more professional using Photoshop CS3. I will also add some more sell lines and add a date and issue number to the magazine cover to make it look like a real and professional finish to the cover.

Analysis Of The Contents Page - Kerrang

Images – The layout of the images in this contents page are in columns and all
except one are the same size and in a systematic order. This is also the same for the text which is along the right side of the page. The assumption that has and could be made about this magazine contents page is that it is very ordered.

The colours that have been used in the contents page are similar to the colours used on the front page of the magazine which are; black and yellow font and a white background.

The contents page directs the audience to the story using page numbers. It is very easy to read and understandable.

The promotional features used on this contents page are; delivered magazines to your door for just £6.00 a month. – This is used to sell more magazines to people, but also make it easier for the readers by having home delivers for their audience.

There are some features used to draw the readers in because they have a bigger image than the rest of some one on the top of the contents page. – This can draw the reader’s attention to the story.

No the magazine logo isn’t placed any where on the contents page. But there is a small image of the front cover in the top left hand corner. – This could be there logo.

Analysis Of The Contents Page -NME

On this contents page there are a lot of colourful and bold images across the whole of the page.
The most domitate of al the images on the page is, the Kaiser Chiefs image on the top on the page, in the centre. It will be the first image tat the readers see when they open the magazine. It is the biggest and bold in colour and statement, the man in the image is the lead siner of the band and he is leaning forward. It is telling me that although it is now a direct invte, it is indicating, and inviting you in to read his, their story.

The coloum of the right hand side is divied into different colours so that tyhe read can find the different storys anf feature in the magazine easily. Each colour is has a different heading relating to the features under it. Next to each feature is the p[age number. By colour coding the sections the maghazine is slpiting to it make irt quicker for the reader to identify there choosen feature.

At the bottom of the page it has a promotional feature, for the readers to subcribe to the magazine. Is uses sdifferent colours for the text and the price it would work out pre issue.
